I am working on a sled for a friend. Someone else had already worked on prior...was told the timing was advanced 6 degrees. Found the timing marks on the cam/crank were off by one. I am assuming that is how it was advanced and not by a custom flywheel key. Vlv lash was @ .007. When the sled was brought to me I was told it wouldnt run right so I assumed it was a dirty carb. So I guess now I am at a cross road. Do I leave the cam where it is or put it back?

It is easy to find how many degrees one tooth on the cam advances or retards, (remember the cam spins backwards from normal rotation of the engine). count how many teeth are on the cam gear and take that number and there are 360 degrees in a circle, so say there are 60 teeth on the cam..........360/60=6... so each tooth the cam is moved is 6 degrees advanced or retarded. hope this helps

Cam timing and ignition timing are two separate things.
